SUITCEYES on SightCity Fair in Frankfurt

Harpo participated in SightCity Frankfurt . It is the biggest,  annual exhibition for aids for the visually impaired. Together with many other manufacturers from all over the world, who present novelties and well-established products of their product range, Harpo promoted the developments of the SUITCEYES project. In 2019 135 exhibitors and about 3800 visitors were present at the fair.

SightCity International Exhibition stands for innovation and profound information concerning visual impairment. Over three days visitors had the opportunity to test various systems and products, inform each other about the latest medical findings and evaluate a large number of consulting and product offers. The specialized character of this exhibition gives visitors an opportunity for a personal contact with manufacturers, associations, consultants and doctors.

SUITCEYES was presented on the Nordic Network on Disability Research (NNDR Conference

Inclusion and Exclusion in the Welfare Society

8-10 May 2019

In May 2019 Sarah Woodin from the University of Leeds attended the NNDR Conference in Copenhagen (http://www.nndr2019.org/ ) where she presented on aspects of the user studies work of the SUITCEYES project. NNDR is a multidisciplinary network and it is the major conference of disability researchers interested in cultural, societal and environmental dimensions of disability and marginalisation in this part of the world. Although the majority of those attending are from Nordic countries, this is a very international conference, with delegates present from many countries worldwide.  The conference is held every two years, with a different country hosting each year.

Consortium Meeting in Thessaloniki, April 2019

The third 3-day consortium meeting of SUITCEYES was held on 15-17th of April 2019 in Thessaloniki, hosted by the Center for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH). During the first day of the meeting all project partners were warmly welcomed by Stratos Kontopoulos from CERTH and the progress in all Working Packages (WPs) was presented.

Subsequently, the project coordinator, Nasrine Olson and WP1 leader, Jan Nolin started with briefly summarizing what has happened since the last plenary meeting and gave an outlook on the aims for the next months. Ray Holt from University of Leeds (WP4) and Stratos Kontopoulos from CERTH (WP3) talked about technology-based perception of the environment and Nils-Krister Persson (WP5) from University of Borås demonstrated an updated version of the prototype which could be used for testing in the near future.

Report on CSUN AT Conference

On March 11-15, 2019 Harpo participated in the 34th CSUN Assistive Technology Conference in Anaheim, USA. We presented SUITCEYES on the project stand during the whole event and presented the paper Sensor technology, gamification, haptic interfaces in an assistive wearable submitted to the Journal on Technology & Persons with Disabilities on March 14 (Session information).

SUITCEYES on Na Tak conference in Poznań

Na Tak meetings are a series of international conferences organized by the Na Tak Association and the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań. From 2015, the strategic partner of the conference is Harpo. This edition of the International Conference “(Nie)zależność” (Eng. “(In)dependence”) was held on November 9-10, 2018 in Poznań, Poland.

On the first lecture day when speakers from Poland and abroad visited and where the issues of supporting the independence of people with different disabilities were discussed, a number of exhibitors also presented their products, technologies, and Harpo also the SUITCEYES project.

During the conference, the participants tried to answer questions about independence and what can I do to support the independence of my relatives, patients and other people with disabilities, how to recognize areas in which people we know can strengthen their independence, even if in some degree they will remain dependent on always, etc. Modern technologies have been explored, which are a better and better complement to the functioning of people with disabilities, allowing them to make autonomous decisions, make choices, communicate their needs and function in society.

There was the opportunity to hear four different lectures and participation in eight workshop blocks during the conference. In total, twenty-three outstanding lecturers, both from Poland and abroad, shared with the audience their knowledge, experience and working methods.
